Louise van den Heuvel has been an indispensable presence on the Belgian scene in recent years. As a bassist and composer, she founded the bands Dishwasher_ and Sonic Hug, and she has regularly appeared alongside drummer Stéphane Galland, in the projects KANDA, The Rhythm Hunters and The Gallands (+ Selah Sue). She has played live in the band of Zwangere Guy & Lander Gyselinck, collaborated with Dijf Sanders and Bruno Vansina, and is a band member of STACE, Bex, Echofarmer, and more.

Sonic Hug’s debut was internationally acclaimed, with reviews in JazzWise,TROUW and Le Soir, among others. It was also W.E.R.F.’s best-selling album that year and appeared in the “Best jazz albums of 2024” lists of both the Belgian quality press De Standaard and Knack Focus.

After residencies at HA Concerts (2023-2024), W.E.R.F. / JazzLab (2023-2024)and Théâtre Marni (2024), each of which produced and/or showcased new signature projects, Louise will in January 2027 also be the central guest at the BrusselsJazz Festival at Flagey, where three brand-new creations will be presented.Meander is one of them, alongside an international quartet with PabloHeld, Sun-Mi Hong and Otis Sandsjö and a new repertoire witha refreshed Sonic Hug.

On her new album 'Meander', Louise does something unique: she unites a selection of key artists in today's Belgian jazz, electronic and impro scenes, for 8 songs in duo with herself.

Bert Cools, Arne Nuyts (Echofarmer), Benjamin Sauzereau, Rebecca Driesmans (Bex), Vic Khaddaj, Elisabeth Klink, Lucia Pirès and Stan Maris each bring their distinctive sound and playing for compositions that traverse ambient, minimalism, experimental electronica and hypnotic atmospheres.

'Eight duets for bass guitar and a friend' is the subtitle of 'Meander' — both meaning 'to meander' and 'me and the other' in Dutch.

The full album will be released on 15th of January 2027 via W.E.R.F. Records.
